Our Story

Storm Flag Games was founded by three veteran online game developers, who share a combined five decades of experience building and leading massively multiplayer online game franchises, with a mission to create multiplayer experiences that bring people together.  Storm Flag’s mission is to enable multiplayer gaming for everyone on all platforms – bringing the best of co-operative play and competitive sports together with classic game play for groups that’s fun for everyone.

Co-Founder and CEO

Since studying computer science and theater arts at MIT, Fernando has spent the last 20+ years leading technical and creative teams building 3 massively multiplayer game engines, 9 major game releases and countless live game updates. Fernando got hooked on real-time massively multiplayer games since he led social and game teams for the There.com social world. Fernando and Kate, together, changed the MMO industry pioneering the transition of Dungeons & Dragons: Online to a Free-to-Play business model ahead of other western online titles. Fernando also built out WB’s mobile strategy game platform, as the creator of Batman: Arkham Underworld for iOS and Android.

Co-Founder and Board Member

Kate brings to Storm Flag a long experience in developing and running games-as-a-service franchises. Passionate about delivering high-quality games while maintaining a clear understanding of the cost and timelines associated with ongoing development, Kate is proud to have been Executive Producer on WB's hit online franchises Game of Thrones: Conquest and The Lord of the Rings Online (which she led to be named PC Gamer MMO of the Year in January 2011). Kate works full time as head of the Boston office for Unity Technologies.

Co-Founder and Lead Engineer

Now a 15+ year veteran of the games industry, David is still enchanted by the challenge of building social games that connect people. He was Sr. Server Engineer on two of the PC MMO industry's major titles, Dungeons & Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online, and led technology for the recent hit mobile war game Game of Thrones: Conquest through pre-production. Before finding his way into software, he graduated with a degree in Physics from Duke University. Outside of work he enjoys running and hiking, playing the flute, and occasionally throwing down a mean Guile in Street Fighter.

Art Director

With 20+ years of experience developing video games, Jeff is an true industry veteran. He has had a diverse career, ranging from roles at Nintendo, Stainless Steel, and N-Space, to his time at WB Games/Turbine, where his Art Direction elevated the Dungeons & Dragons Online art to new heights. Jeff has worked with many well regarded IPs such as The Walking Dead and Marvel, in addition to various movie licenses. Jeff holds degrees in both Computer Science and Art from SUNY Polytechnic and DigiPen, and enjoys blending the art and science of video games into aesthetic greatness.

Michael Kujawa

Principal Engineer

Michael and multi-player games have grown up together, and he has always been drawn to the technology that makes them work under the hood. It began with trying to make a BBS back when 28kbps modems were common, progressed to working on distributed training simulations for the US Navy, and finally joining Turbine in 2001 to work on the core engine technologies of Asheron's Call 2. During his 16 years with Turbine/WB he advanced to Tech lead for Lord of the Rings Online and DDO, and Principal Engineer on Infinite Crisis and Batman: Arkham Underworld.

Advisor

Stewart is one of the pioneers who turned video games into a business. He joined Electronic Arts in 1983 as one of the first employees. As Senior Vice-President and General Manager of EA Studios he led the world’s largest interactive studio. Additionally, he was SVP Product at IMVU where he was a seed investor 11 years ago, and a Co-Founder of If You Can (with Trip Hawkins), AnyRiver Entertainment, There, Bix, and ShortForm. He is an Advisor to startup companies. Stewart earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley, received the 1993 Stanford Business School Entrepreneurial Company of the Year award as one of 5 EA executives, and voted Teacher Irritator, Senior Class Poll, San Mateo High School.

Advisor

Jim is Co-founder and CEO of Forge.AI, a cloud-based data company that enables intelligent machines to autonomously perceive and reason across the ever-changing global flows of unstructured information. Prior to Forge.AI, Jim led, and helped build, several technology companies from startup through either an IPO or their acquisition by public companies. Jim’s key relevant experiences include: Skyhook Wireless, Inc. (CEO - WiFi location - acquired by Liberty Media), Turbine (CEO - Digital Entertainment - acquired by Warner Bros.), m-Qube (COO – Mobile - acquired by VeriSign) and Network Plus, Inc. (COO - Data / Communications – took Public on NASDAQ).

Advisor

Mike founded Vorhaus Advisors in November 2018. Previously, Mike worked at Magid for 24 years, where he founded the Magid Internet practice in 1995 and the Magid Gaming Practice in 2001. The Magid Internet and Gaming practices worked with many of the top digital and gaming companies in the U.S. and abroad. Mike provides consulting services focused on strategy, investment opportunities, product development, business development, corporate development and marketing to a number of digital and gaming companies. He also provides advice to venture capital and private equity firms in regard to investments in the media and tech spaces.
